Apple has recently updated its guidelines to allow developers the flexibility of choosing whether to integrate the “Sign in with Apple” feature into their apps. Previously, this login method was mandated when developers implemented third-party login options. However, Apple has now imposed certain conditions for developers who opt for alternative login methods.
According to the revised guidelines, developers utilizing third-party or social media login options must provide an alternative login method that minimizes data collection. This alternative should also offer users the ability to safeguard their email addresses and prevent tracking while using the app.
It’s important to note that these new conditions may not be applicable across all scenarios. They are exempt for apps developed by companies employing their own authentication methods, as well as for educational and professional organizations exclusively using educational and professional accounts. Additionally, the conditions do not extend to apps featuring an identification system developed and verified by government entities or companies.
The “Sign in with Apple” login method was introduced in 2019 as part of iOS 13. Apple asserts that this feature ensures minimal data collection and guarantees that users are not tracked while utilizing the app.
