Microsoft will distribute the Windows 11 upgrade to existing Windows 10 PCs starting in 2022. This upgrade will be released in phases during the first half of the year. Microsoft previously said this rollout would begin at the end of 2021.
The official Windows Twitter account has been writing to multiple users since this weekend that the upgrade of current Windows 10 PCs will start in 2022 and will take the first half of the year. A concrete start date is not mentioned in the message. Existing Windows 10 PCs will probably be able to update manually before then.
When announcing Windows 11 last Thursday, Microsoft said the free upgrade would be released at the end of this year. In a blog page published on Thursday , Microsoft writes that the free upgrade will be rolled out “starting the holiday season.” So, the company is now saying on Twitter that the upgrade of “Windows 10 devices currently in use” will take place in the first half of next year, with likely the automatic upgrade.
